From investigative policing to national security
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu (born 21 November 1960) trained in law and joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986. He rose through investigative and legal roles and became Head of the Force Criminal Investigation Department’s Legal and Prosecution Department before his appointment as pioneer EFCC chairman in 2003.
As EFCC chairman, he became one of Nigeria’s most visible anti-corruption officials, overseeing the agency during its formative years and pursuing high-profile financial-crime cases.
After public service and political activity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him Special Adviser on Security in June 2023 and subsequently National Security Adviser. He continues to coordinate strategic national-security priorities and engagement with domestic and international partners.
